Connecting Languages, Cultures, Communities, and Futures

Languages connect us - to people, cultures, communities, ideas, and opportunities. At Rutgers, they are not confined to language classrooms. They are part of everyday life, shaping how we learn, communicate, collaborate, and engage with the world.

The Language Engagement Project (LEP) invites students to explore the power of language through innovative academic, professional, and community-based experiences. Whether you speak multiple languages, are learning a new one, grew up in a multilingual household, or simply want to engage more deeply with diverse communities, the LEP offers opportunities to connect language learning to your personal, academic, and professional goals.

The LEP offers a wide variety of language experiences: courses, global and local language exchanges, mentoring, service-learning internships, interdisciplinary projects, and community engagement initiatives. Students learn how language intersects with culture, identity, education, healthcare, business, technology, public service, and countless other fields.

At its core, the LEP is built on a simple belief: multilingualism is a strength. The linguistic and cultural diversity of Rutgers is one of our greatest assets, and we are committed to creating opportunities for students to learn from one another and engage across differences in an interconnected world.

We invite you to join a growing community of learners, educators, and global citizens who believe that language engagement enriches both education and society.
